Before this game Stan Ternent wanted the bragging rights, his side graciously provided them. After the game a delighted Terriers boss had the following to say 'I'm delighted. I thought we played quite well - much better in the second-half - and showed good pace and passing. We scored some fantastic goals, but most of all we're delighted to be in the next round. We kept a very important clean sheet too and we will only gain confidence from that. All in all, it's been a good night's work and now we have the bragging rights!
You have to earn the right and it took us some time. Bradford were pretty good in the first-half and we had to step the tempo up a little bit; we moved the ball a little quicker and the opportunities started to come later on.'
For his part Stuart McCall had the following to say 'we weren`t outfought but outplayed by a very good side. Hopefully we won`t come up against that standard every week.
I`m not stupid enough not to realise we were up against very good players and if they played to their potential, we would be hard pushed to hold them.
For the first half, we competed well and it was quite a tight game. We defended well and looked dangerous when we went at them.
But they upped the tempo in the second half and their good players started perfoming. They got the early goal and it was difficult to stem the flow.
The goals they scored against us were terrific - they were high quality and not down to bad mistakes on our part. Roberts looks a tremendous player and Danny Cadamarteri was a threat all night.
We worked hard as a team and as a unit, particularly in the first half, but sometimes you`ve just got to hold your hand up and admit you were up against quality play.
There weren`t too many positives, other than we`ve got another game coming up on Saturday and hopefully we`ll get the three points then. We will regroup in training tomorrow and look ahead to Macclesfield and to getting back on track there.
I will be disappointed and hurt by that for a long time and I know the supporters will. But realistically, Huddersfield are a division higher than us and a far better side - that`s just a fact.'
Two things are disappointing for me. The first is that Stuart thinks we weren't outfought. I would suggest during the second half heads went down far too easily and we suffered from the consequences of that by showing no real desire to get back into the game.
The second thing that I would have asked Stuart had I had the scope to do so (Derm Tanner your interviews would be improved by a bit of critical questioning rather than being chummy) is about his substitutions. For me they seemed to make absolutely no sense and do nothing to give us a way back into the match. It was strange with the option of 7 substitutes to not include Billy Topp who I would rather have seen go up front with Peter Thorne than Omar Daley.
Truthfully, even though Barry had one of his worst games in a long time I would have kept him on if we had no attacking alternatives because the Thorne-Conlon partnership is the most successful one we have and once Barry went off we lost any sense of ball winning potential within the side.
All in all a disappointing night, but we're far more interested in the league than in some tin pot bit of silver. Bring on Macclesfield Town who had a great victory last night in a great response to their 4-0 demolition at the hands of Shrewsbury. Hopefully we can effect a similar reaction.
