Matt Glennon, the once ever-present Huddersfield goalkeeper (racking up 123 consecutive appearances) signed earlier this week to replace Simon Eastwood.
One Huddersfield Town stopper for another, and the word from the Galpharm (at least those Terriers with whom I've spoken) are slightly concerned that they've done worse out of this particular January sale.
I certainly don't think the Bantams backline will be negatively impacted by the move. It can not be denied that Eastwood was capable of some inspired saves. However, it is also a sad and pretty depressing fact that in the last four games at Valley Parade we have conceded 11 goals. Since the opening day's 5-0 defeat at Meadow Lane there have been persistent question marks about the regularity with which the Bantams' backline has been breached.
Speaking to the Telegraph & Argus Glennon was making all the right noises. He talks about promotion and references former efforts that Stuart McCall made to bring him to Bradford.
From Stuart's words there's clearly been a bit of wheeling and dealing to make this transfer go through and credit must go to Matt Glennon and Huddersfield Town for coming to a happy conclusion that sees the former Carlisle man getting to play football again.
Stuart said 'we had a look in the close season but financially it was too much for us. Then I spoke to Clarky a couple of weeks ago about the option of bringing him in but it was still too big a step with the money. But in the meantime, they came back to us to do the deal. Matty`s agreed a compensation deal there and now I`m delighted that he`s our player'
With @martinedmondson suggesting that Mr Eastwood wasn't a goalkeeper but actually a rightback we shall see this afternoon whether his replacement lives up to his previous credentials as an asset to his team.
Welcome to Valley Parade Matt, good luck and hopefully you can pull that defence of ours into something resembling a bit of shape.
