City Reserves v Sheff Utd Reserves

Citys reserves continued their woeful form as they lost 2-0 at home to a young Sheffield United side. City fielded a reasonably strong side with Jake Speight, Robbie Threlfall and trialist goalkeeper Lenny Pidgeley. Pidgeley has been without a club since the summer having been released by Carlisle. He had previously played for Millwall and Chelsea.

Threlfall stepped up his recovery from injury with 45 minutes at left back. Peter Taylor was in the crowd to keep an eye on his second string and trialist Pidgeley will have done himself no harm with a solid performance.

United opened the game the brighter of the two teams and forced Pidgeley into a couple of smart saves. The Blades eventually through Porya Ahmadi. United captain for the night Andy Taylor, signed last season from Tranmere, whipped the ball in where Ahmadi headed into the bottom corner beyond the hand of the outstretched Pidgeley.

Pidegeley went onto to make further saves before the half time whistle. Threlfall was removed at half time as he eased his way back into first team contention. City managed to start the second half a bit brighter and opened with a Jake Speight effort which was saved at the second attempt by the United keeper.

Chib Chilaka was presented with an opportunity later on but he put his effort wide as he was put under pressure from the United defender. The Blades wrapped up a comfortable win 5 minutes from time when Taylor again crossed the ball which left Jordan Slew with an easy tap in.

Chib Chilaka could have grabbed a consolation goal for City after he was put through but he again slid his effort past the post with only the on rushing keeper to beat.

City: Pidegeley, Holmes (Marshall), Threlfall (Lawless), Flett, Robinson, Fisher, Green, Mitchell, Moult, Chilaka, Speight.

United:Long, Montgomery, Taylor, Harriot, McGuire, Parrino, James, Hinchcliffe, Slew (Foster), Ahmadi (Ironside), Gregory (Wilkinson).
