Double injury headache ahead of #OUvBC

Dave Syers and Steve Williams a doubt for Saturday's trip to Oxford and there must be fears that the two will still be out of contention before the game in Accrington on Tuesday.

Syers, outstanding in midfield against Leeds, injured his knee in a collision with Andy Lonergan and was withdraw shortly afterwards. Tweeting later that day he mentioned his sore knee but the first official word was released earlier today. According to the club website he will be going for a scan on his medical ligament (Ed: we think this should be medial) and that will give a better idea of what's wrong with him.

Ritchie Jones was given his first taste of action on Tuesday but having missed a chunk of pre-season his performance did look slightly rusty and his play was a little off the pace. Jackson has other options. Should he revert to a 4-4-2 then Chris Mitchell could slot in alongside Michael Flynn with Jack Compton continuing on the left and Dominic Rowe possibly getting a nod on the right (although the signing of is probably done with this position in mind)

As for Steve Williams, a worthy support to Guy Branston in the cauldron of Elland Road, he has suffered a recurrence of the thigh injury that disrupted his pre season. Already Williams' short professional career has seen him struggling with niggly injuries and much of Jackson's hopes for the coming season must hinge on having his first choice centre back pairing fit and ready for action.

Should Williams join Lee Bullock on the sidelines then Luke Oliver is the next in line to be tried at the heart of the defence (a third defensive partnership in three games) and the forgotten, but still contracted, Lewis Hunt would move closer to some more game time.
