Bradford took their place in the second round of the FA Cup following a dramatic night on Tuesday, which finally saw them overcome Northampton on penalties. This shootout win meant that The Bantams have won from the spot three times in cup competitions this season.
10-minutes before the break Bradford took the lead through Will Atkinson (35) but Northampton managed to level just before the break when Ishmel Demontagnac (43) successfully converted a penalty.
As extra time loomed The Bantams had a chance to win the tie in the 90-minutes when a last minute penalty was awarded, Nahki Wells (90) converted this to restore the lead but incredibly Clive Platt (90+3) scored for the visitors to force extra time with an injury-time equaliser.
Having been behind Northampton took the lead early in the second period of extra time through Kelvin Langmead (109) and that seemed as though it would then see the visitors through but Bradford forced a penalty shootout with an injury-time equaliser of their own. Carl McHugh's (120+1) goal saw the game end in a 3-3 draw.
Wells was denied in the shootout but after Danny East and Langmead missed Ricky Ravenhill converted the winning spot kick to give Bradford a 4-2 shootout win.
