It was a Tuesday Night in Yorkshire.
Aston Villa were the visitors for the first leg of the league cup semi final.
It started as most semi finals do, with both teams looking nevous as passes went astray. Villa had the early chance through Christain Benteke's free headers.
Then in 19th minute the Bantams leading scorer Nahki Wells found himself all alone in the box to calmly place the ball past Shay Given. The scouts watched on, the value of wells had just entered 7 figures.
Both teams had chances towards the end of a first half, in which Bradford had shown such passion for the tie and the prize. Many of the Bradford team stood out but I feel that Gary Jones lead the side and showed what we were all about in that first half.
Villa started the second half the better, they had obviously had a rocket from under fire manager Paul Lambert during the break. How secure is Lamberts future at Villa? On came Darren Bent still they could not beat 'Matt 'now the' Duke of Bradford'.
In the 77th minute Bradford won a corner the inspirational Gary Jones whipped in a corner and Rory McArdle powered home a header, 2-0 the fans were beginning to talk about a weekend in London for a Cup Final. Shortly after James Hanson rattled the bar with a great header, the under fire Hanson had a good night.
The 'Duke' was finally to be beaten through Andi Weiiman who got on the end of a Benteke knockdown to lift the ball over Matt Duke with 7 minutes to play. I was looking at the time on my phone, I remember it like it was just moments ago. I thought it could be a long 10 minutes!
I was still clock watching, well when I was not singing my head off when we won a corner...... My shout was 'corner', as in play it in the corner. Nope Jones whipped the ball over and Carl McHugh who had been great all night rose to power a header past his hero Shay Given in the Villa goal.
Some of our young players showed so much maturity in the dying moments in killing off the first leg.
Man of the Match? Can I be forgiven this once for giving it to the Whole of the Bradford Team.
