Howarth loan move blocked

Russell Howarth has had a loan move to York City scuppered by red tape.

The Bantams' number two keeper was expecting to play for the Minsterman against Morecambe on Tuesday after their regular shotstopper Tom Evans was suspended following a sending off.

But the deal was blocked only six hours before kick off.

UEFA rules say clubs are not allowed to use an emergency loan to replace a suspended player.

The Football League had given the go-ahead but Nationwide Conference insisted the loan could not proceed.

And that meant Howarth was not even allowed to be on the bench for the Bantams' game against Carlisle United.

Howarth told the official BRadford City website: 'I started the day ready to play for York and ended up completely in limbo. It's unbelievable really.

'I am back to the drawing board again. But at least somebody showed an interest and my name is now out there as available to go on loan.'
