Bantams Play Off Push

Bradford welcomed automatic promotion chasers Northampton town to Valley Parade , Bradford looking for their second win on the bounce to push for their playoff spot whilst Northampton with a win could go second in league 2.

Northampton got straight into action with an extremely long throw from Ben Tozer which captain Clarke Carlisle got his head onto but didn't find the back of the net. James Hanson then got a good flick onto fellow forward Nahki wells but Clarke Carlisle stepped in to take the ball from wells and cleared the 'cobblers' lines. Bradford then came close with a free kick which fell into the feet of Garry Thompson who hit it on the volley but Northampton goal keeper Lee Nicholls parried it out for a corner. Garry Thompson then got the best of 'cobblers' full back Joe Widdowson getting a great cross into the box to Nahki but Lee Collins cleared the Northamptons lines. Chris Hackett then had a good run down the left hand side chasing a long pass from Ben Harding who hit on the half volley but fired over Jon Mclaughlins goal. In form James Hanson then got a good flick on towards Kyel Reid who exploded down the left however scuffed a pass into the box which Lee Nicholls picked up. Northampton were then awarded a free-kick just on the halfway line which Ben Harding goofed into the Bradford goal which resulted in a huge scramble for the ball in the box and nobody could get there foot onto it to finish the move and Rory Mcardle cleared the ball out. GOAL!!! Garry Thompson then placed a perfect long pass which Nathan Cameron got his head onto over his own goalkeepers head and Nahki Wells sprinted round the pair and finished into an empty goal to put Bradford City ahead 1-0. 'stand up if you love city' echoed around the ground as Northampton began from the restart. Northampton then tried to reply instantly with a other box scramble but Ishmael Demontagnac hit wide for the 'cobblers' leaving manager Aidy Boothroyd frustrated. Nahki wells nearly doubled the bantams lead just before half time with an excellent free kick but just flew over the Towns goal.

Half time - Bradford city 1 - 0 Northampton Town.

Kyel Reid and James Meredith made some good work on the left side which Reid then travelled into the box with the ball getting round Joe Johnson and had a curling effort but went just wide. Ben Tozer tried to pull level after getting past Stephen Darby but Andrew Davies stepped in and made a wonderful interception. Nahki wells then got into the bradford goal and crossed the ball along the floor of the box reaching the far post however James Hanson couldnt finish the move sliding in on the far post. Substitute Adebayo Akinfenwa got straight into action with a diving header from a corner but Jon McLaughlin made a brilliant save keeping the 'cobblers' out. Rory Mcardle then nearly put the bantams 2 ahead with a shot just inside the area from a Gary Jones free kick but was flagged offside. Jon McLaughlin then made the save of the game keeping out Jake Robinson. Roy'O Donnovan then nearly pulled Northampton with a decent shot outside the area on the counter attack but went just wide.

Hendrie Loaned From Burnley
