Wembley Fitness Boost

Wembley Fitness Boost

Former Birmingham striker Alex Jones, forced to miss Bradford's play-off semi-final against Fleetwood due to injury sustained against Rochdale on the final day of the League One season, will be fit to face Millwall at Wembley.

McCall, who initially refused to rule him out of the Fleetwood tie, is obviously delighted to have Jones fit.

He told the Telegraph & Argus: 'He's been sharp and has got a good goal-scoring record. He's a finisher so it would be nice to have him available if he keeps progressing like he has. Alex is another good option to have. The gap has given him a good chance of being ready. It will be almost three weeks since he did the injury when we come to play.'

It had been hoped Jones would face Fleetwood but in the end this wasn't ever an option, in fact there were eventually concerns about his chances of any involvement in the 20th May play-off final.

However, McCall has said fitness coach Chris Short is happy with Jones' progress and he should be in contention.

McCall said: 'He did some on Friday but he wasn't sprinting. There was nothing vigorous and he certainly wasn't close (to playing) at Fleetwood last weekend. He was able to do more at the start of the week and Chris (Short, fitness coach) was happy with how he's been going. We'd be hopeful that he will be fine to be in contention.'

Jones, 22, who scored 10 goals during a half-season loan with Port Vale earlier in the campaign, will bid to add to his five for Bradford since a £30,000 arrival at Valley Parade in January. Then again it doesn't matter who scores at Wembley as long as City win to secure a Championship return.
