Hendrie Loaned From Burnley

Hendrie Loaned From Burnley

Bradford have boosted the squad with the addition of Luke Hendrie.

The right back, son of City legend John Hendrie, has signed on a half-season loan from Premier League side Burnley.

Hendrie, 22, will remain at Valley Parade until January 2018.

After experiences at League Two level with York and Hartlepool, Hendrie spent last season on loan with Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock, making 33 appearances in Scotland.

This isn't Hendrie's first spell at Bradford. He was involved in the youth setup before joining Manchester United. After a spell at Derby he returned for a trial with City ahead of a switch to current club Burnley.

Commenting on the deal Head of Recruitment Greg Abbott told the Official Website: 'With the end of the summer transfer window coming up, we wanted to ensure we had adequate cover in the right back position, especially if anything happened to Tony McMahon. Luke has a good pedigree - he played a number of games in the Scottish Premier League last season.'

Abbott went on to say 'this is not the end of what we want to do' as far as transfers in this window are concerned but this addition will certainly give Stuart McCall 'more depth to the squad' providing ample cover for McMahon that will 'keep him on his toes in terms of competition.'

Yes, Bradford means a lot to the Hendrie family but Abbott insists this transfer has been conducted on merit and NOT sentiment.

He finished: 'Luke wants to come here and do well. This club obviously means a lot to his family with this father playing here, but this move isn't about sentiment.'
