Around the ground with the exes - 23/09/2017
With another away win on the board for the Bantams, my eyes were definitely focused on events away from Valley Parade this past weekend. So let's take a look at some select ex players throughout the grounds.
Zavon Hines scored in his 4th consecutive game, his 5th of the season, this time from the spot as Maidstone threw away a 2-0 lead at home to 10 man Gateshead. Hines has now picked up 5 yellows and will be suspended for the Stones next game. With 2 points dropped, Maidstone are now 3 points from first place Sutton United and sit in 9th in the National League.
Ross Hannah also scored from the spot to get himself on the score sheet for the 3rd time this season as Chester won 2-0 at home to Maidenhead. The win puts the Blues 3 points above the relegation zone in the National league and 21st in the table.
Danny Forrest experienced his first loss as Silsden AFC manager as Truman was sent off for the Yorkshire Club losing away at The Wanted Stadium 3-0 to West Auckland in the FA Vase 2nd round. Still doing a marvellous job in 2017/18, Forest will now want to continue his excellent start in the league.
Rory McArdle and Josh Morris helped Scunthorpe United to a 2-0 win at home to Portsmouth. The result keeps the Iron only 2 points behind City in League 1 and sitting in 5th at this early stage.
Alan Sheehan picked up his 3rd yellow card of the season as Luton Town beat Chesterfield at home lifting them to 3rd in League 2.
Jordan Pickford experienced his 3rd home win of the season in the Premiership as Everton beat Bournemouth 2-1. Simon Francis struggled to deny the Toffees coming from a goal down keeping the South coast club in 19th. Everton with the much needed win moved up to 13th.
James Meredith helped Millwall to their 2nd consecutive clean sheet away to Preston North End, the match ending 0-0. With only a sole loss in their past 7 games, the Lions are picking up valuable points keeping them a few places above relegation in 16th in the Championship.
Mark Yeates scored his first goal since November 2015 as Eastleigh beat Hartlepool 1-2 at Victoria Park in the National League. Eastleigh have lifted themselves to 15th in the table whilst the Pools have ended the weekend in 17th. Scott Loach was between the sticks for the North East Club.
Scott Brown scored for his 2nd consecutive game as Peterhead won 3-0 away to Edinburgh City in the Scottish League 2. Peterhead sit in 2nd in the table, 5 points behind Stirling.
Billy Sharpe couldn't find the winner as Charlton Athletic played out a stalemate at The Valley ending 1-1 against Bury. Greg Leigh helped Bury in taking a point back to Lancashire but a place in 21st in League 2, the final relegation spot is their reward. Athletic have now 1 point from a possible 9 leaving them in 7th place, just outside the play offs.
Brad Jones dished up a bit of a shock as Feyenoord lost 0-2 at home by struggling NAC Breda. With 3 losses on the trot in all competitions, Feyenoord have dropped to 2nd in the Dutch Eredivisie trailing Heerenveen by 2 points.
Devante Cole scored his 6th goal in 10 games with a last minute consolation as Fleetwood Town lost at home 2-4 to Southend United dropping the Lancastrian club to 10th in League 1. Jordy Hiwula-Mayifuila failed to add to his 3 goals this season for Town.
Louis Moult, yes him again scored his first goals this season in the Scottish League Cup, a brace as Motherwell won 3-0 at home to Aberdeen in the quarter finals. 9 goals in 11 games, scored in his past 5 consecutive games, could this be 1 ex City striker worth considering in the future? Carl McHugh helped the Well through to set up a semi final with Rangers.
Michael Flynn's Newport Co. secured an important 1-0 victory at home to a Grimsby Town side featuring Nathan Clarke. Town have dropped to 13th whilst County have lifted themselves to 8th in League 2. Matt Dolan was an unused sub for Newport Co.
Phil Parkinson, Reece Burke, Josh Cullen, Filipe Morais and 2nd half sub Aaron Wilbraham seem to be stuck in Groundhog day. This time a 0-3 home loss to one of their relegation rivals Brentford. Wanderers are now 3 points of 2nd bottom in the Championship and 5 points off safety. Just a quick mention, Wanderers forward Adam Armstrong is the son of one time City loanee Alun Armstrong. This is becoming a familiar story now for Wanderers and will it get to such a stage their match reviews will be just copy and pasted?
Steve Davies helped Rochdale to their 2nd home win of the season, a very comprehensive 3-0 over Gillingham. The former City striker was subbed on 58 minutes at which stage the games was safe at 2-0. Rochdale have climbed a few places in the League 1 table to 18th.
Billy Knott received his first red card since April 2017 as 10 man Lincoln City lost 4-1 away to Notts Co. Jon Stead opened the scoring for Co. his 3rd of the season making the half time score 1-0. Lincoln dropped to 12th in League 2 and Notts Co are sitting joint top, but with a better goal difference by 1 are in pole position 9 games in.
