Goalkeeping Options Left Open

Goalkeeping Options Left Open

Colin Doyle is currently on international duty with the Republic of Ireland but Stuart McCall isn't ruling out the possibility of the goalkeeper returning to the club in time for the weekend.

Doyle, almost certain to be third choice option for the Republic in World Cup qualifiers against Moldova and Wales, could be released from Martin O'Neill's squad.

His availability isn't being ruled out but if Doyle doesn't feature for Bradford at MK Dons on Saturday McCall insists he's got no qualms about handing Lukas Raeder his debut with regular second choice Rouven Sattelmaier still sidelined.

McCall told the Telegraph & Argus: 'I've known that happen before when people have come back from international duty, certainly when I was in Scotland. We'll have to wait and see. But I wouldn't have any concerns if Lukas was to start on Saturday.'

Raeder, 23, has impressed in training and settled well at Valley Parade. However, the keeper hasn't made a first team appearance in almost two years as the former Bayern Munich shot-stopper - playing two games for them - last turned out for Portuguese club Vitoria Setubal against Boavista in January 2016.

The boss would privately prefer to have the experienced Doyle available but publically - not that I'm not doubting this is indeed true - McCall insists selecting the German doesn't pose a problem to him.

'He has settled okay and is a bit unfortunate that he's had only one development game. He's trained well and Banksy (goalkeeping coach Steve Banks) has been pleased with him. He's worked well with Doyley,' said McCall.

Adding: 'He's not played a first-team game for a while but he seems quite a calm guy and quite assured. We're not 100 per cent clear about the goalkeeping situation yet but if Lukas was to play I wouldn't have any worries about it.'
