Charlton rained on my Valley Parade
Form is temporary and class is permanent is the old adage, that's the only thing that will give me comfort after another loss this time against Charlton Athletic. It has been a terrible weekend, to top it off Town beat Man United, Leeds had a massive win on the road to Bristol City, and to further top it all off , the weather was naff making my Ted Bakers leak and ended up with wet feet.
What's it all about
With a weakened side missing some detrimental players, it really exposed the lack of depth in some areas we have in the squad and starting with 1 up front I never take as a positive tactic doesn't matter who you play against, especially at home. With the stats pretty status quo in possession, shots etc it took a 74th minute short range shot from Jake Forster-Caskey to break the deadlock giving the Addicks the lead which resulted in a 0-1 loss against the ex Premiership club meaning we have now only managed a single point out of a possible 9 in our last 3 games. The wheels have definitely fallen off our wagon of late with the top 2 in Shrewsbury and Wigan starting to break away from the chasing pack. Due to earlier form for the Bantams and lack of form from the teams around us, surprisingly we still sit 3rd in the table by default thanks to scoring more goals than last Saturday's opponents but positions are tightening up in the play offs and we can't afford another month like October to finish in the top 6 come May.
Is there truth about Octobers?
Octobers seems to be a poor month for the Bantams, but how true is this?
2017/18 - 1W 1D 2L - 4 points from 12 with 2 games left
2016/17 - 4W 2D 1L - 11 points from 18, 1 cup win
2015/16 - 3W 2D 1L - 11 points from 15, 1 cup loss
2014/15 - 1W 1D 3L - 4 points from 15
2013/14 - 1W 1D 3L - 4 points from 15
2012/13 - 2W 4D 2L - 8 points from 15, 2 cup draws we won on penalties
2011/12 - 2W 3D 2L - 8 points from 18, 1 cup draw we won on penalties
2010/11 - 2W 3L - 6 points from 15
2009/10 - 1W 3D 2L - 5 points from 15, 1 cup draw we won on penalties
2008/09 - 3W 2D 1L - 11 points from 18
So looking at Octobers for the past decade, last season wasn't bad winning as good as half the games, in 2015/16 you can say we had a good run, but the previous 6 seasons we were shocking in the Halloween month, even in the promotion season under Parkinson. So let's get the cup game out of the way against Man City and the away game against Pompey and start a new month and leave this nightmare of a month behind us and get back behind McCall and the lads.
