'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Barrau: I'm ready for a fight

David Wetherall has made 24-year-old Xavier Barrau his first capture.

The Frenchman left-winger has signed until the end of the season.

And Barrau, who released himself from his contract with Airdrie in January, says he's up for a scrap.

He told the official Bradford City website: 'Here, not only the players but supporters enjoy the fight.

'The people who are watching give you more, so when you are on the pitch, you want to give them back what you receive.

'For me, this is the football. In France they play good football but if they are losing 2-0 and there are ten minutes left, in their heads they have lost the match and are thinking 'We'll see next time.'

'I wanted to come over because I have the same mentality. I came to Walsall and had a two-year scholarship contract but, at 17, I was just too young, too naïve and wanted to stay just one year before I went back to France. I wasn't ready.

'I knew that after a few years I would go back to England. I like the hard tackles, except when they are high, because football is not bowling - although it is not boxing either. You are playing 11 against 11 and you have to fight to keep the ball and to dribble.'
