As this season`s fortunes start to change, the transition of one of our players form has truly impressed me. Darren Williams shares a number of resemblances with Ex-City player Darren Holloway, name, position, squad number and some even say looks. At the start of the season a familiar 'hold your breath` feeling was shared by most of the City faithful when Williams was defensively asked upon.

However, since a short spell on the sidelines after suffering an injury, the resurgence of this seasoned campaigner has to be admired. Such as Crouch or Hargreaves did for England, Williams has gained support on and off the pitch and is beginning to become an assured week in week out performer.

Williams the battered war hero of our victory over Dagenham & Redbridge, receiving warranted treatment no less than three times. He seemed to be the only player, when Dagenham were down to 10 men, who controlled the ball and employed it into an attacking move.

Saturday`s display showed a reluctance to concede by Williams and was consolidated by very tidy performances by both Wetherall and Clarke. I would ask, is it time to take our concerns from right to left?

I was one of the major doubters who slagged off Williams for some his woeful performances in pre-season and early season games. For me he was equally as ineffective as his namesake Holloway but for different reasons. Holloway's distribution was appalling & was a liability in terms of always being likely to upend the man going past him. Williams' passing ability is generally pretty good, his major weaknesses seemed to be positional sense & lack of pace allowing wingers to stroll past and deliver the ball at will. I do now have to concede that having seen his recent performances, he has been much improved, introducing the steel that was required and improving his positional sense instead of drifting into the centre away from his man. I still feel he will get exposed regularly if Omar doesn't help provide protection but he is definitely much improved since the start of the season, lets hope this continues. As for Heckinbottom, I still think he's a quality player who reads the game well and his sending off was a disgrace. Maybe Bower when fit may provide some pressure for the left back position in which he has performed well which will lift Heckinbottom's game - he certainly won't walk straight back into Clarke's position the way he is playing.

I agree, at the stasrt of the season I wouldn't have paid him in washers, however noe I'm torn between him and Clarke for a twam hero!

Looks like Luke O'Brien's getting the nod on Saturday for left back so it will be interesting to see how he gets on against what should be a strong side.
