The former Bradford City gaffer is 'helping out' at Gigg Lane on a voluntary basis for at least a week in a move that is certain to get speculation flowing about the future management of Bury.
Chris Brass, currently Caretaker Manager of the Shakers, said to the Official Bury website 'Chris is an old friend who has come in to give me a hand with training. It's a busy time for the club an he's here purely as a favour to me. No doubt the message board will be full of speculation after he was seen this afternoon, but it's simply a case of an old mate helping me out'. We at Vital Bradford are happy to stoke the flames or rumour and innuendo even though it's clear he will not be around for long.
Hutchings has not enjoyed the step-up from the position of assistant manager on the two occasions he has followed his mentor Paul Jewell. First at Bradford City and then at Wigan, his tenure has come to a premature end after results did not meet expectations.
Of course, Geoffrey Richmond has famously said that he didn't give Hutchings long enough in charge at the club but I think that's more an attempt to deflect attention away from the Six Weeks of Madness that has moulded the twenty first century experience of Bradford City.
