'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Bradford City Official Review

Twice in the last three home games I have been appalled by the performance of the referee. Before today the match against Hereford in particular had provoked my ire but today the performance of Neil Swarbrick continued to undermine the professionalism of our so-called officials.

When he wasn't ignoring the bullying tactics of the Shrewsbury players he was awarding freekicks for innocuous challenges or issuing yellow cards for minor infringements (in comparison to some of the repeat offending that had been going on).

He did get the decision for the penalty correct, at least from my biased stance in the Sunwin but that was no less than we deserved after the dubious freekick that led to the move that saw the initial goal and the sticky matter of whether or not the second crossed the line.

For what it's worth I thought the linesmen had a pretty good game and that it was more than likely that Marc Pugh's shot crossed the line although it was one of those horrific moments where you thought you'd got away with it only for that to be snatched away by a flapping flag on the touchline!

Apparently our referees are accountable for their performances. I would like to know to whom Mr Swarbrick has to defend and legitimise his efforts at Valley Parade last night. He was not very good at all.

When i left last nights game i was not happy with the officials at all. Last nights result was nearly spoiled by the award of Shrewsburys second goal. I had a clear view of the goal line and i can say without doubt the ball did not cross the white line. I have witnessed some poor decisions over the years but last nights was a complete joke. How could the linesman possibly see through the rook of players around Loach? If the linesman was behind the line when the keeper saved it he would not of given it. Fact the linesman was at least a yard away from the corner flag. Terrible decision.
